The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences (NRES - University of Illinois) works toward better understanding and managing landscapes and products from landscapes. These landscapes can be rural or urban, native or managed, and include the integration of social, biological, and physical elements as well as their interactions. Many of the faculty and staff of the Department of NRES pursue important horticultural issues and the many aspects of sustainable agriculture.
The study of food systems requires that members of the Department work with the rest of society to enhance the interactions of consumers, food production, industry, and the environment within the landscapes of Illinois.
